Ralph Lockridge, a spokesman for the Drug Enforcement Administration, says the 65-year-old suspect "was in possession of about 500 grams, which is a little more than a pound, of opium." The arrest follows a four-month investigation that began after postal inspectors had found opium mailed from Europe and destined for Pahlavi, Lockridge says. He adds that Pahlavi had surrendered peacefully and was the only suspect arrested so far but that more arrests were expected, both in the United States and in Europe.
